Find your 1Password Secret Key or request account recovery

If 1Password asks for a Secret Key when you sign in on a new device, check a device where you are already signed in before starting recovery.
Keep your Secret Key, account password, Setup Code, and Emergency Kit private. Do not email them or attach them to a support request.
Find it in 1Password 8
- Open and unlock 1Password on a device where your work account already works.
- Select your account or collection at the top of the sidebar or screen, then select Manage Accounts.
- Select the correct account if more than one is listed.
- Choose Your Details. Use the Secret Key field to copy the key directly into the sign-in form on your own device, or use Reveal to view it privately.
You can also use Set Up Another Device from the account menu to display a Setup Code for your other device. Treat that code as a secret too.
Check your Emergency Kit or a previously used browser
If you saved an Emergency Kit when setting up the account, it contains the Secret Key and Setup Code. Check the secure location where you saved it; the original PDF may be in Downloads with a name containing 1Password Emergency Kit.
You may also be able to sign in at 1Password.com using a browser that has signed in before. Select your name > Manage account, then Show beside the Secret Key. A new browser will usually ask for the key first.
Organizations using Unlock with SSO follow a different sign-in and device-linking process and do not have an Emergency Kit. If that is your setup, use your company sign-in instructions or contact us.
If you cannot find the key or unlock any device
For a company-managed account, contact 2Fifteen Tech support with the work email on the account, your company name, and whether you can still unlock 1Password anywhere. We can help identify the administrator who can recover it.
What to expect during recovery
- An authorized account administrator begins recovery after your request is verified.
- 1Password sends a recovery email. Follow it to confirm your email, create a new account password, and receive a new Secret Key. SSO accounts follow prompts to link apps and browsers again.
- Tell us when you have finished your part. An administrator still needs to complete recovery before you can use the account.
- Once recovery is complete, sign in again on your devices with the updated details. Save a new Emergency Kit if your organization allows one.
Existing vault data remains available after successful account recovery. The process can differ for personal accounts; contact 1Password Support if the account is not managed by your company.
