Your printer is offline or will not print

Updated by 2Fifteen Tech

Use these checks if printing does not start, jobs get stuck, or your printer appears offline.

1. Check the printer and connection

  • Make sure the printer is powered on, has paper, and is not showing a jam, toner, or other error.
  • For a USB printer, check that the cable is firmly connected.
  • For an office network printer, use the expected office network rather than guest Wi-Fi. If you are working remotely, ask whether that printer requires a company VPN.
  • If other people are printing normally, tell us. If nobody can print, tell us that too.

If it will not interrupt anyone else's work, turn the printer off, wait about 30 seconds, and turn it on again. Do not factory-reset it.

2. Select the correct printer

Open the document's print dialog and confirm the printer name. Watch for a similarly named old printer, another office location, or a PDF destination. Try printing a simple, non-sensitive one-page document from another app to check whether the problem affects just one application.

3. Check your print queue

Mac

  1. Open Apple menu > System Settings > Printers & Scanners.
  2. Select the printer and open its queue. On newer macOS versions, print jobs are shown in Print Center, which you can also open from Applications > Utilities.
  3. If your job is paused, resume it. If one of your jobs is stuck, cancel that job and try sending it once more.

Windows 11

  1. Open Start > Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
  2. Select the printer, then Open print queue.
  3. Review pending jobs. Resume a paused job if that option is available, or cancel your stuck job and resend it once.

Only cancel your own jobs. If you cannot cancel or resume a job, contact support rather than clearing a shared queue or changing printer services.

4. Contact 2Fifteen Tech if it still fails

Contact 2Fifteen Tech support with:

  • Your computer name or serial number. Here's how to find it.
  • The printer name, make/model, and office location.
  • The exact error and whether it appears on the printer, computer, or both.
  • Whether it affects other people, other apps, or a simple test page.

A cropped photo of the printer error or queue helps. Leave confidential document contents out of the image. Contact us before deleting printer setups or resetting the Mac printing system.
